“Hello” Dr Crippen Born 11 September 1862
Hawley Harvey Crippen (September 11, 1862 – November 23, 1910), usually known as Dr. Crippen, was an American homeopathic doctor and salesman.
He was hanged in Pentonville Prison, London, for the murder of his wife, Cora Henrietta Crippen. He was also the first criminal to be captured with the aid of wireless communication. He was sailing to Canada aboard the Montrose but was recognised by the Captain who instructed a telegram to be sent to the British authorities advising them of Crippen’s whereabouts. A Scotland Yard detective caught a faster liner to cross the Atlantic and reached Canada before Crippen. He contacted the Canadian authorities and arrangements were made for Crippen to be arrested on arrival.
